Not only is Mrs. K the sweetest lady but she does great work at fair prices. She altered my dress to be so figure flattering I can’t wait to wear it to my event! Mrs. K even held my baby and played with him so I could try my dress on to make sure I liked it.

As a new resident of Macon, I was eager to find a reliable and timely alterations place. After some research, K’s Cleaners stood out at first glance. On my first visit, Kitty seemed like a sweet and helpful lady, and I was willing to pay $60 for hemming just one pair of pants. She mentioned she was busy with wedding and prom season, so I didn’t mind paying the high price since I had an important event two weeks away.

As I continued to bring my clothes to her, I noticed that she was always busy. Regardless of how early I dropped off my items, she would consistently charge the highest price. For my next visit, I was heading on vacation, so I dropped off my clothes an entire month in advance to avoid any rush fees. I needed a button replaced on one of my pants, and I even provided the button for her to use. I also needed one of my shirts pressed. Confident that I had given her plenty of time, I expected everything to be ready without issues.

However, the day before my trip, when I went to pick up my clothes, I noticed some of the items had not been dry cleaned as I had requested via text. When I pointed this out, she acted like I was crazy and said there was nothing she could do because it was too late. I had to quickly find another cleaners before my flight.

When it came time to pay, I reached for my wallet, and as Kitty handed me my change, I noticed it was short from the amount she had originally quoted. When I questioned her, she confidently stated that the new amount was what she had said from the beginning, which was a lie. I made a mental note of this and left.

Once home, I unpacked my clothes, and that’s when the real nightmare began. The shirt that was supposed to be pressed looked like it had been carelessly tossed, and my designer jeans had been altered with a completely different button than the one I had provided. To make matters worse, Kitty still has my original button.

This experience was my final one with K’s Cleaners. Kitty does a great job of masking her true feelings about her brown customers through fake customer service. As long as you’re spending money, she’ll pretend to be nice, but it’s clear she doesn’t appreciate you. To my fellow brown people, please take your business elsewhere. Find a place that values your time, gives you the service you deserve, and doesn’t shortchange you.

I brought Kitty a unique wedding dress that is made of a very delicate fabric and had two pieces to it. It was a tough job and she NAILED IT! When I got home I realized there were a few things that I needed changed (not her fault, it was my fault for not speaking up in the moment!) and she let me bring the dress back and worked hard to make sure I was happy with my dream dress for my big day. I hate to give bad reviews to anyone, but I would want to let people know this dry cleaning service does not deliver.  Brought in suit jacket because it had a dried-on stain.  When it was returned, the stain was still there (see "before" picture).  With just a little scratch/scrape with my fingernails, it came right off (see "after" picture).  I am not convinced that the coat was even cleaned; instead, I think there was just plastic wrap placed around it.

I have used Gem since moving to Macon 8 years ago. Their laundry work is superb, always neat and expertly done; they make an extra effort to remove stains and leave you a note that they found it but couldn’t remove it safely without compromising the fabric. If ever there’s a problem, they bend over backwards to do right by the customer . Have used their alterations service on occasion and found the wok to be high quality. They don’t hesitate to tell a customer when they think repair of the garment is economically unfeasible as where it is too old to be expected to last long  enough afterwards as to be worth the investment. Also, they don’t hesitate to advise against a repair where it will leave a color discrepancy showing in part a portion of the original fabric in its unblemished color, as compared to the current fabric, faded by sunlight and continuous washing.

That said, the real “gem” in Gem Cleaners is Priscilla, manager of the Ingleside store. She is always friendly, courteous and helpful. I believe she has been there since the doors opened, and her experience shows. She knows how to treat customers not only because of the economic reasons, but more importantly because she is such a thoroughly decent person concerned over all to do the right thing in every situation which may not always be the cheapest out for Gem. It reflects very well not only on the strength of her character but the integrity of Gem Cleaners, as well; had the company not been happy with her performance in these matters they could easily have discharged her; but I’ve never seen nor heard of anything to suggest that any disciplinary sanctions have ever been taken against her.  Too, it is worthy of note that being a native Maconite, I have quite a few friends who trade at Gem and any comments I’ve ever heard about Priscilla or Gem have been nothing but glowing.

The only criticism I have involves the state of its
facility. IMO, the maintenance of a facility, especially in its public areas, tells the world about how management feels about the quality of its business. Though the premises are always clean and tidy, Gem’s interior is quite rundown.It doesn’t appear that any attention has been given to the store since the doors opened. The shabbiness has to make some customers, especially prospects looking for a new laundry, wonder whether management’s inattention to its own “house” is an indication of how their clothing will be handled. It could also be an indication of the company’s financial condition.  The importance of that information is obvious and important for anyone who’s ever gone to a laundry to pick up clothing or heard from friends about a similar situation happening to them; on arrival, they find a sign on the front door advising that the laundry has filed for bankruptcy and that customers should contact the trustee, when appointed, for instructions on procedure as to  when  and where to present claim checks to obtain any property left for cleaning.

I went to this cleaners around a month ago&a caucasian lady was in front of me with a dress to hem&the spring dress was long and the material was made exactly like mines. The young Asian guy at the counter was so courteous to her, he escourted he to the bathroom to the rear left side of the cleaners, so that he could see how far she wanted the dress hemmed up. After seeing this, I brought my two spring dresses to have them hemmed and I had mines pinned where I wanted mines hemmed and he spoke to me with less enthusiasm and tried to convince me because of the material of my dress, it sometimes "hard" to hemmed. Also, he charged me close to $100, to hem (w/o dry cleaning) two spring dresses that were the same length&material as the caucasian lady dress. He said the cost could be less&if so he would refund me. I shall see, but this will be my last time coming here. If you're Black American, please be careful here.

I just had the worst racial discrimination today Saturday September 21,2024 from B.A. Cleaner. The store had just closed at 2pm and I was a few minutes late, there was a male sitting in the back with  the door opened and I asked if I could get my son's suit out for homecoming tonight,  and he said no along with a few other harsh words.  I went and sat in my truck, I had a feeling that someone was going to come by for the same reason. Not even 2 minutes later a white female pulled up for the same reason I was there and he was willing going to give her her son's suit. I got out to start taking pictures and video of everything,  then he decided to say he was not going to give her anything. Long story short is after this I gave the lady my ticket and asked her to get it for me when I drive off because I knew if I'd driven off earlier she was going to get her suit while I was going to be stuck without mines. She got both suit and brought it to me. I hope whomsoever reads this, do not used this racist business.

The only issue I ever had was with a shirt that I had that had a label on the chest that had been glued on.
