Shawlands Laundry

I picked up my dry cleaning earlier today - such an amazing service, all my knitwear and coats look good as new! I’ve been nervous to try dry cleaners, due to bad experiences in the past, but I will definitely be going to Shawlands Laundry from now on! The very lovely man who served me helped me load my dry cleaning into my car. So excited to have my beautifully laundered clothes, just in time for my trip to Paris!

I used this launderette for the first time and feel incredibly misled on price. As my washing machine is being replaced, I needed a load of tees and underwear to be washed. I went in here ahead of time and asked about price. I was told an IKEA bag’s worth of clothes was £14. That sounded like a good deal to me, so I went home and brought that volume of clothes. But when I came back to pick them up a few days later I was told the price was now £30. Neither the person on the til nor the person in back explained how they came to the new, more-than-double price. They told me it was a judgment call on the time it takes, and nothing to do with volume, which contradicts what they said initially. Feel like I was ripped off to be honest. Edit in response to Shawlands Laundry’s reply. Thank you for the apology but you seem to be blaming me for the mixup. I came in specifically to ask about your laundry service prices because you don’t have prices online or on display in the shop as far as I can tell, and your staff specifically said an IKEA-sized bag was £14, that’s why I brought that specific size. And if there was a translation mixup, again, I don’t think you can blame that on me. Your staff only mentioned drying time after the fact, but the bag had pants, socks and t-shirts, in my experience at home quick-drying items, so I still don’t understand how you came to that top-level price. I find most other services give you a rough idea of cost upfront, or charge by weight, number of loads, number of items etc. By obfuscating the cost you’re misleading people.

There are certain things in life that you do and don't think too much about it; buy milk, fill up with fuel, etc. I would include dropping off and picking up laundry as one of those things. If the service runs smoothly you don't give it a huge amount of thought. However, Shawlands Laundry makes this task somewhat of a joy. I love the friendly personal service they provide. They make an absolute effort to know and remember their customers and make them feel valued. In terms of efficiency they say when your items are ready, and they always are. You can rely on them. Price wise, they're competitive and do the occasional free extra. If you want a job done properly, at good value, and with great service then visit Shawlands Laundry.
